The Facial Steam

FACIAL STEAMING and how it’s done.

Have you ever heard of a facial steaming with essential oils?

Have you ever wondered how it’s done?

Well, wonder no longer because I am about to tell you how it is done safely and effectively.

The How To

If you do not have a facial steamer don’t worry there is still away. Steaming is a very simple process, the first step is to warm the water, make it pretty hot, not too close to boiling but enough that it is nice and steamy!

  1. Wash your face super well to remove makeup and dirt.
  2. Pour the hot water into a bowl.
  3. At 1 drop of the essential oil that you would like to use, for the steam.
  4. Get a bath towel, place it at your neck, put your face over the bowl of steaming water, and using the bath towel cover your head and the bowl creating a canopy effect that doesn't allow the steam to escape.

If it is too hot allow it to cool down a little before attempting and remember to take breaks as needed.

Don't overdo it, just do what feels comfortable and tolerable.

And remember, only ever use 1 drop of essential oil if you accidentally add 2 or more drops then set it aside and start over.

 Oils To Use

Oils that I recommend for respiratory:

  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary
  • Breeze
  • Myrtle
  • Marjoram

Primarily oils that open the airways and/or have a high 1,8-Cineole content and oils that help the lungs.

Oils for cleansing of the skin:

  • Geranium
  • Lavender
  • Frankincense
  • Chamomile
  • Rose
  • Helichrysum

If you would like to use a combination then what I suggest is making a 'stock bottle' in order to do this you would add the combination of oils you would like to a bottle and mix well, remember to label it so you may use it for future steams. This could be a drop of each or 10 or more drops of each, whatever or however you chose to combine them, the idea is that you have a good combination of all the oils while still only using the 1 drop as recommended.

The Benefits

There are many benefits to facial steam with essential oils, it can help to rejuvenate the skin, unclog the skin pores, and relax the mind, it is also used to ease some respiratory conditions, open the lungs and clear them out.

There are more good reasons for the popularity growth of facial steams, they are easily done at home and very cost-efficient while still having a calming spa feeling.

One of the main things to remember is that breathing in essential oils is the fastest way for them to reach the bloodstream and get effective throughout the body.

The benefits of the oils don’t stop at the skin and lungs but can be distributed throughout the body causing relaxation.

Caution:

If you are pregnant or nursing consults with your doctor prior to attempting this.

To assure that you are not allergic to any of the oils do a patch test on the inner wrist with the oil you would like to use and wait to confirm there is no reaction or sensitivity.
